Doha – June 17, 2026: The Institute for Population Health (IPH) at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar recently hosted two expert-led webinars highlighting the role of lifestyle practices in promoting health and wellbeing.

Part of the IPH’s Population Health & Well-being Series, the webinars aim to address contemporary and critical topics relevant to healthcare, medicine and population health; examine evidence-based practices in public health and patient care; and explore opportunities and challenges within the evolving landscape of healthcare and population health.

The series is directed by Dr. Ravinder Mamtani, professor of population health sciences and vice dean for population health and lifestyle medicine at WCM-Q, and professor of medicine at the Center for Global Health, and Dr. Sohaila Cheema, associate professor of clinical population health sciences and assistant dean for the IPH.

In the first webinar, titled ‘Holding It Together: Stress, Strength and Recovery,’ which was attended by 570 participants, Dr. Suhaila Ghuloum, associate professor of clinical psychiatry at WCM-Q and senior consultant psychiatrist at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), discussed variations in human responses to stress. She also explored the impact of stress on physical and mental health, evidence-based coping strategies, and best practices for managing stress to support recovery and resilience.

During the session, Dr. Ghuloum emphasized that prevention is the most effective way to manage stress. She explained that this can be achieved by adopting a healthy lifestyle that includes good nutrition, adequate sleep, regular exercise, social connections, hobbies, setting personal boundaries, taking time off and delegating responsibilities. She also noted that some level of stress can be beneficial and help improve performance.

Dr. Mamtani presented the second webinar, titled ‘Nutrition Reimagined: Science-Backed Strategies for Optimum Health.’ During the session, he examined the core principles of a healthy and balanced diet; evaluated current scientific evidence on the role of nutrition in promoting health and preventing disease; and outlined a practical, clinically applicable approach to integrating nutrition into healthcare.

He also highlighted that poor nutritional habits contribute to the rising prevalence of chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity. Dr. Mamtani added that evidence suggests that when a healthy diet is combined with other lifestyle interventions, such as increased physical activity, stress management, avoiding risky substances, improved sleep and maintaining strong social relationships, significant health benefits can be achieved, including the remission of chronic diseases. The session was attended by more than 500 participants.

The series is aimed at physicians, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, allied health practitioners, students, researchers, educators and administrators. The webinars were accredited locally by the Ministry of Public Health’s Department of Healthcare Professions – Accreditation Section and internationally by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).
