As the 2026 FIFA World Cup™ unfolds across North America, the global spotlight once again falls on football’s greatest stage. Yet for many fans, commentators and media, the conversation continues to return to Qatar 2022.

Four years later, the tournament is remembered for far more than the action on the pitch. It also stands out as the only FIFA World Cup™ hosted across a single, connected destination, allowing fans to attend multiple matches in one day while discovering Qatar’s culture, heritage and hospitality, and introducing millions of visitors to Qatar for the first time.

What began as the world’s biggest sporting event was never intended to be an endpoint. Instead, it became the catalyst for a broader transformation, accelerating Qatar’s evolution into a global tourism destination and creating a legacy that extends well beyond the tournament itself. Today, as Doha serves as the 2026 GCC Tourism Capital, that legacy continues to shape the destination long after the final whistle.

At the heart of Qatar’s tourism story lies a quality that cannot be built through infrastructure alone: Karam. Deeply rooted in Qatari culture, it reflects a tradition of generosity and genuine hospitality that visitors experienced during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ and continue to encounter today.

Perhaps nowhere is this spirit more clearly reflected than in the majlis, a space built around welcome, conversation and connection, where the aroma of freshly brewed Arabic coffee (Qahwa), infused with cardamom, carries a tradition of hospitality passed down through generations. Together, the majlis and Qahwa serve as enduring symbols of Qatari and Arabian hospitality, offering visitors a glimpse into a culture where Karam is not simply a gesture, but a way of life.

In fact, during the tournament, Karam came to life in a particularly memorable way, as locals opened their majlises to visitors from around the world. Complete strangers found themselves welcomed into a majlis, sharing Qahwa, conversation and dinner with their hosts, turning unexpected encounters into genuine moments of connection and creating memories that would last long after the tournament.

One of the defining features of Qatar 2022 was its accessibility, and that convenience continues to shape the visitor experience today. From the moment travellers arrive at Hamad International Airport, Qatar’s integrated transport network makes exploration effortless. The Doha Metro connects museums, cultural districts, shopping destinations and the waterfront, allowing visitors to discover multiple facets of the country within a single day.

Since 2022, Qatar has continued to build on the momentum of the tournament, broadening its appeal with experiences that speak to travellers of all ages and interests. New attractions, cultural experiences, entertainment venues and waterfront destinations have added fresh dimensions to the visitor journey, while Qatar’s museums, heritage sites and traditional marketplaces continue to offer a deeper connection to the country’s identity. Together with its expanding collection of luxury resorts, wellness retreats and beach clubs, this evolving offering has helped shape a destination with something new to discover on every visit.

While football introduced millions of people to Qatar, a dynamic programme of events continues to inspire visitors to return. Through Qatar Calendar, residents and visitors can enjoy international sporting events, cultural festivals, concerts, exhibitions, family entertainment and seasonal celebrations throughout the year.

The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ will always be remembered as a defining moment in the nation’s history. Since then, Qatar has continued to welcome the world through events such as the FIFA Arab Cup and Formula 1, while looking ahead to a sporting calendar that includes the FIFA U-17 World Cup and the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 qualifier matches.

Today, visitors come not only for major events, but also for the experiences that define modern Qatar: authentic hospitality, cultural discovery, world-class dining, family-friendly attractions, seamless connectivity and a vibrant year-round calendar of events.

Football may have been the introduction, but Qatar’s tourism story is one that continues to unfold, inviting travellers to discover a destination that has transformed a historic sporting moment into an enduring legacy.

Doha-Qatar, July 5, 2026 – Ford is the new gold standard for mass market new vehicle quality in America, ranking as the top mainstream brand in the closely watched JD Power 2026 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS) — an achievement 16 years in the making.
