Doha – July 21, 2026: An advanced, minimally invasive, incisionless procedure for treating gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) was the topic for discussion at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar’s (WCM-Q) Grand Rounds Live Webinar Series. The procedure, called transoral endoscopic fundoplication (TIF), involves passing an endoscope and a specialized probe down the patient’s throat into the stomach in order to repair the valve between the esophagus and the stomach, thus preventing acid reflux. Dr. Mahrukh Rizvi, assistant professor of medicine at WCM-Q and an alumna of the college, gave a webinar titled, “Safeguarding your kidneys: Understanding chronic kidney disease.” The session discussed the risk factors and early signs of kidney disease, stages of disease progression, management strategies that can be implemented to slow the progression of the disease, and the impact of kidney disease on overall health.
