Lecture marks the start of the 2026–2027 CMU-Q Dean’s Lecture Series

DOHA, QATAR – September 16, 2026 – Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) hosted H.E. Buthaina bint Ali Al-Jabr Al-Nuaimi, Minister of Social Development and Family, to discuss Qatar’s strategic roadmap for social development and its role in building a resilient and empowered society. CMU-Q is a Qatar Foundation partner university.

Dean of CMU-Q, Michael Trick, welcomed H.E. Al-Nuaimi for her presentation on key issues at the intersection of social policy, family empowerment, and national development, followed by a question-and-answer session.

“The Dean’s Lecture Series is a forum where we host some of the most talented, thoughtful minds in Qatar, and the world. It is my pleasure to welcome Her Excellency to this series, to share her expertise and perspective with the CMU-Q community,” said Trick. “As an expert in social policy and education, she has a fascinating perspective and insight on the challenges and opportunities for Qatar in the area of social development and family.”

During her lecture, H.E. Al-Nuaimi presented the Ministry of Social Development and Family Strategy 2025–2030, “From Care to Empowerment,” outlining its approach to building a resilient society in alignment with Qatar’s Third National Development Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030.

The strategy features five interconnected pillars: strengthening family unity, women’s empowerment, supporting vulnerable groups, building social solidarity, and comprehensive social protection.

H.E. Al-Nuaimi explained that the strategy represents a breakthrough in Qatar’s social development approach, emphasizing that its success requires collective action and collaboration across government, the private sector, civil society, and the wider community.

“Our vision is to move from care to empowerment, creating the conditions for individuals and families to thrive and contribute fully to society. By strengthening families, empowering women, supporting priority groups, fostering active and responsible communities, and promoting productive and independent lives, we are building a more cohesive and resilient society for generations to come,” said H.E. Al-Nuaimi.

The presentation was the first installment of CMU-Q’s Dean’s Lecture Series for the new academic year. For more than 15 years, CMU-Q has welcomed leaders in government, industry and academia to the Dean’s Lecture Series, hosting more than 80 speakers from across Qatar and around the world.
